Update: Seeing the Light.
Hello, dear readers! Life has been a whirlwind lately and I wanted to give you all an update on what’s been happening. Cory and I recently moved, but not exactly as planned. Hurricane Hellene threw a wrench into our plans, and we ended up in an unexpected house much further out of town. While the move was a surprise, we’re adapting—and loving the mountain views from our new home.
Getting settled has been an uphill task. Between catching up on lost time at work including the storm-related shifts to my class and production schedules, the timelines have condensed. Weekends are now a mix of work and unpacking, which has slowed down the house setup. Despite all that, I’m thrilled to say that I’ve managed to fully set up my fiber studio! It’s still small, but it has a better layout and a bit more space than before. A good-sized walk-in closet is now my designated machine-knitting area—a small luxury I’m grateful for.
One thing that always surprises me about creating a studio space is how much lighting matters. Luckily, the walls in this room were already white—a great neutral base that doesn’t mess with my color Perception. The two windows in the studio are a game-changer. The main window is north-facing, which is ideal since it provides natural light without harsh direct sunlight that can fade colors and distort textures.
To supplement the natural light, I installed two lightweight LED fixtures over my looms. These are a must for me, as so much time is spent dressing the looms, and I want to preserve my eyesight as best as possible. These affordable, four-foot LED lights don’t use much power, weigh less than a pound, and are a breeze to install. The daylight-white light they provide makes all the difference, especially during long sessions. Click here to purchase these for your studio.
In my next YouTube video, I’ll take you on a guided tour of my new studio, and I can’t wait to show you around! Thank you all for your support during this transition—Cory and I are grateful to share this journey with you. I Should be able to post regularly again, so stay tuned for more updates, and I’ll see you soon!
